Hi, I'm Brynn. After years working in garden maintenance and landscaping, I noticed something most people have come to accept as normal: the excessive noise, fumes, and environmental impact of traditional fossil fuel-powered garden equipment. This inspired me to start Net Negative Gardening, with a simple idea: to provide quality garden care that does not harm people's health, the environment, or ignore the bigger picture.
How We're Different
We do things a bit differently:
- All-Electric Equipment: No fossil fuels, no fumes, no excessive noise. Just efficient, clean equipment.
- Double Carbon Offsetting: We already produce minimal emissions, then we offset those emissions twice over (200%) through environmental charities that make real change.
- 10% to Effective Global Wellbeing Charities: We've taken the Giving What We Can company pledge to donate 10% of our profits to the world's most effective global wellbeing charities.

Our Service
We provide residential and commercial garden maintenance using all-electric equipment throughout Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs.
What We Do
- Lawn cutting (we use a mulching plug or side chute rather than collecting clippings. This reduces unnecessary waste and is healthier for your lawns)
- Edging and brushcutting
- Hedge and tree trimming (up to 3 metres with pole hedger/saw, up to 4 metres with scaffolding)
- Weed management (hand weeding for larger weeds, organic herbicide 'Slasher' for smaller weeds. Slasher herbicide effectively destroys visible weed foliage through dehydration, but may require multiple applications to kill weeds with established root systems as it doesn't always kill the roots.)
- Green waste removal
Service Area
We currently service areas in north-east Melbourne suburbs. View a map of our service area here, or scroll to the bottom of the page.
Service Packages
- Monthly: Best for low-maintenance properties
- Fortnightly: Recommended for most gardens (best balance of maintenance and cost)
- Weekly: For larger or high-maintenance gardens
- Twice-Weekly: For very large properties or those requiring perfect presentation
How We Work
- All-electric equipment
- A quote for the first service will be given online via our quote form, as well as a estimate for ongoing maintenance. After the first service, an accurate quote for ongoing maintenance will be provided.
- No lock-in contracts
- We recommend meeting our team during your first service—typically scheduled at 7am or between 3-5pm for your convenience—though we're happy to work autonomously if preferred.
- Smart scheduling system (you'll always receive at least evening-before notice before we arrive, plus a text with ETA when we're on the way)
- We will send you an email or text (based on your preference) afterwards to let you know how the service went.
- No need to be home during service
Insurance
We have $5 million public liability insurance.
Environmental Impact
Why Electric Equipment Matters
Traditional fossil fuel-powered garden equipment produces significant pollution:
- Petrol lawn mowers produce up to 11 times more air pollution than cars (per unit of run time)
- Two-stroke engines release 34% of fuel as unburned pollution
- Garden equipment contributes significantly to local air pollution
Our Solution
By using all-electric equipment, we eliminate:
- Direct emissions from fuel combustion
- Partially burned fuel emissions
- Oil and fuel spills
- Local noise pollution
It is important to note however that we still use ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles, due to the limited options of EV (electric vehicle) utes and their high cost.
Carbon Offset Commitment
We double-offset (200%) our carbon footprint through the Effective Altruism Australia (EAA) Environment Fund, which focuses on systemic solutions rather than just symptom management. We use a conservative cost estimate for the cost per tonne of CO2 averted per year, given by EAA, which references the research of Founders Pledge. More information and references can be found on our "Environmental" page under our "Extended" section.
Social Impact
Our Giving Approach
We've taken the Giving What We Can company pledge to donate 10% of our profits (or 1% of revenue if higher) to independently evaluated charities that are proven to maximize positive impact on global wellbeing, based on research from the Happier Lives Institute.
StrongMinds
We have decided to predomenatly donate to StrongMinds, an organization that:
- Provides group interpersonal therapy in Uganda and Zambia
- Has an evidence-based approach with proven results
- Every USD $1,000 donated creates 40 wellbeing-adjusted life years
- Estimated to be one of the most cost-effective ways to improve wellbeing globally
Why This Matters
By focusing directly on improving subjective wellbeing (how people feel during and about their lives), we can support interventions that make the biggest difference in people's lived experience.
